Michael “Mike” John Postel was born March 28, 1948, in New Ulm to Otto and Lilly (Clyne) Postel. Growing up in New Ulm, Mike attended grade school at New Ulm Public School. Mike was united in marriage to Carla Isackson on April 8, 1977, in Essig. This union blessed the couple with a son and two daughters whom together they raised in New Ulm. Early in his working career, Mike worked at American Artstone in New Ulm. Later in life he went to work with a cousin helping to lay concrete foundations until his disabilities made it too difficult to work. Mike had a variety of hobbies in life. Mike was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan, and always enjoyed cheering for his favorite player, Patrick Mahomes. As a man who loved the outdoors, Mike enjoyed hunting pheasants, deer, and also mushrooms. Spending time with his family was always important to him. Over the years, Mike had grown especially close to his grandson, Luke. He enjoyed cooking him breakfast, and taking him to Cash Wise for ice cream. His hope was to be able to take him out fishing this summer. To relax, Mike enjoyed going for back road country drives with his grandson to look for wildlife. He also enjoyed scrapping for metal products. He was a very strong, stubborn, independent man. Mike was an incredibly devoted husband to his wife Carla, and made every effort he could to visit her at Oak Hills. Even in his final days, he would let you know what he was thinking. He was also very giving with his time, and was always willing to help when he could. He took care of his family to the fullest. He was a good man, the best father, and the greatest grandpa to his grandkids. May these memories and countless others forever stay in the minds of those who knew him best.
