WINTHROP–Elizabeth “Betty” Joyce Biermann, 86, of Winthrop died peacefully at her home in Winthrop with her family by her side on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop.  Pastor Paul Miner will officiate, and burial will follow in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Moltke Township at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 3rd, and continue from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4th all at the Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting the family with arrangements at this time. Betty is survived by her daughter, Laura Biermann of Ramsey; her son, Mark Biermann of Spring Valley; her 4 grandchildren,; her great grandson; her sister, Kathleen O’Neill of Winthrop; her sister-in-law, Lois Biermann of Illinois; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard in 2019; her sons, Todd, Karl, and David Biermann; her mother-in-law, and father-in-law, Adelheid and Edward Biermann; and her brothers-in-law, Lester Biermann, and George O’Neill. Elizabeth “Betty” Joyce Walz was born November 18, 1936, in Benson, Minnesota to Marcus and Lillian (Giese) Walz. The full obituary will follow in next week’s edition of The Journal.
