Alice Steffl

Alice Steffl
Alice Steffl, 90, of New Ulm died Friday, December 23rd, 2022 at her home surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.
Alice was born on October 15th, 1932 in Morgan to Albert C. and Ursula (Braunger) Fischer. She attended St. Michael’s Catholic School and graduated from Morgan High School. She then went to St. Cloud School of Nursing and worked as a nurse at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. On June 1st, 1954 Alice married Don Steffl in Morgan and later settled in New Ulm, where they raised their family and spent the remainder of their lives. They loved to travel throughout the country together for Don’s many work trips and they spent many summer weekends at the family cabin on Lake Minnewaska. Alice also enjoyed her vacations with her sister Ruth (and her family) in Mazatlán, Mexico.
Alice enjoyed spending time with family as well as tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, baking her famous pudding cookies or Buster Bar dessert. She kept her mind sharp by working the daily crossword puzzle, reading and watching Jeopardy. Alice also welcomed playing a board or card game with her children and grandchildren, making many memories that everyone will cherish. She was very involved with her rosary and prayer groups as her faith was important to her.
In her earlier years, Alice volunteered with Meals on Wheels, NUACS mailings and Accelerated Reading. She also met regularly with the neighborhood women for coffee as the kids played.
Alice was a gentle soul. Many friends commented that she was the sweetest, kindest person they knew.
Alice is survived by daughters, Terese (Mark) Andersen of Wausau, WI, Lisa (Dave) Drazkowski of Onalaska, WI, and Chris (Mark) Palmer of New Ulm; sons, Ron Steffl, Pat (Maggi) Steffl, Dan (Tammy) Steffl, all of New Ulm, and Francis Steffl of Brooklyn Center; brother, Clair (Gwen) Fischer of Morgan; a sister-in-law, Carmen Steffl; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jean Ge) Dehon, Gretchen Andersen (Ryan Harlow), Brady Steffl (Kelsie Betsch), Chad Steffl (Sierra Flynn), Justin (Pam) Steffl, Sarah Steffl, Rachael (Tony) Moldan, Nicole Palmer and Nathan Palmer; and great-grandchildren, Corinne, David, Savanna, Gretta, Noah and Eliza.
