Oliver “Ollie” Earl Van Tassell Jr.
Oliver “Ollie” Earl Van Tassell Jr., age 52, of Buffalo, Minnesota, passed away on July 20, 2022.
He was born on Aug. 23, 1969, in New Ulm, Minnesota, to Mary (Laway) Warner and Oliver Van Tassell Sr.
When he was 4 years old, he and his mom relocated to northeast Minneapolis. Ollie graduated from North High School (class of 1987). At a young age he met the love of his life, Lisa Langie. They began dating on Oct. 19, 1984, and the high school sweethearts were joined in marriage 12 years later on Oct. 19, 1996, in Fridley, Minnesota. He briefly worked as a cabinetmaker and attended the University of Minnesota until he started his career with United Health Care, where he was employed for over 20 years.
The best was yet to come when he became a dad. Ollie was devoted to his family and took pride in making his wife and daughters his priority. He coached his daughter’s soccer teams and was known to be a father-like figure to the other players with his encouraging and gentle style of coaching. He was everyone’s biggest cheerleader. His fun and outgoing personality naturally made him many friends. Those who knew Ollie knew he was a man with a big heart and willing to do anything for those in need; whether it was a stranger or friend. You could always count on him to be there. He loved life and loved to celebrate with those around him. He made the most of every day and lived life to the fullest.
Growing up, Ollie was active in playing and watching all kinds of sports, which continued into his adulthood. He was especially an avid baseball fan and had the goal to visit all of the MLB stadiums in the U.S. He made it about halfway through his list, citing many of the older fields as some of his favorites. He loved watching the Vikings and was involved in fantasy football leagues with his friends for more than 20 years. Ollie liked to play video games, spend time out on the lake either fishing or boating, and attend as many Metallica concerts as he could.
He is preceded in death by his father, Oliver Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; children, Emily, Kalli and Natalie; mother, Mary; stepfather, Gerry Warner; stepmother, Sandy; half-siblings, Edward, Shauna, Carrie, Christopher and Collin; and many other relatives and friends. He was an animal lover and enjoyed working from home with his dogs, Rico, Bella and Luna; and his cats, Zoey and Lily.
Visitation for Ollie will begin at 3 p.m. with the Memorial Service to follow at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at The Peterson Chapel in St. Michael-Albertville (300 Main St. N.). Please join the family for a light meal following the service in the Peterson Chapel Reception Hall.
