John “Jack” Ulrich

John “Jack” Ulrich, 86, of New Ulm, died Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. James.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm, with full military honors provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Connie (Elwood) Heldt of Butterfield, Debbie (Bruce) Budach of Woodbury; son, Richard (Tina) Ulrich of Lake Mills, Wisconsin; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Lorna Starke of Round Rock, Texas; sister-in-law, Vicky Ulrich of Jackson, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlene; grandson, David Heldt; sisters, Hilda Kurth, Loraine Werner, Lillian Rose Ulrich, Della Braun and Ruth Wels; and brothers, Erwin and Marvin Ulrich.

John Richard Ulrich was born June 10, 1936, in New Ulm to John and Emma (Tepe) Ulrich. He was a graduate of DMLC High School in New Ulm. Jack served in U.S. Air Force from 1955-59. He was united in marriage to Marlene Fastenau on Jan. 19, 1958, in St. James. They resided in New Ulm where Jack was employed at his family business, Ulrich Electric, and then at 3M until his retirement in 1997. Jack’s hobbies included bird watching, wood carving and gardening. He was a member of the American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm.
