Viola M. Weerts

SPRINGFIELD — Viola M. Weerts, age 83, of Springfield died on Oct. 2, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel and will continue on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield
Service will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. The clergy will be Pastor Dan Larsen. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Springfield

Viola was born on Oct. 19, 1937, to John and Sena (Kruse) Spieker in Adrian. She grew up on a farm near Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School. After high school Viola worked as a waitress in the Worthington area before moving to Comfrey. After moving to Comfrey, Viola worked at AUI in Sleepy Eye for many years & in the laundry department at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield. On March 26, 1992, Viola married Duane Weerts at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield. The two of them loved to spend time together, working outside at the farm and spending time with their families. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Viola enjoyed listening to country music, gardening and sharing her garden produce, and volunteering at church and the food shelf, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Duane Weerts; children, Pam (John) Habinger and Wade Pidde (special friend Christy Lorenz): stepchildren, Dale (Robin) Weerts, Craig (Sandy) Weerts, and Connie (Duane) Walser; grandchildren, Justin Habinger and Joshua Pidde; step-grandchildren, Elijah, Thad, Caleb, Jeremy, Brittany, Brady, and Micaella Weerts, Jacob and Cory Walser and Robert and Austin Nash; sister Sena (Harlan) Berkness; and sister-in-law Elaine Spieker. Viola is preceded in death by her parents, brothers George, Raymond, Wilbert, and John Jr. Spieker and sisters, Frances Moret, Sylvia Baddgor, and Patsy Galema.
