Kristjana Sigurbjorg Johannsdottir was born April 8, 1927, to Johann and Ingibjorg (Gudnadottir) Josepsson in Daufa, Litinstadahreppi, Skagafirdi, Iceland. She was raised in Iceland, and moved to America at the age of 27. Kris was united in marriage to Berthel Johnson on January 9, 1954, in Minneapolis. The couple started their lives together on a farm in rural Mora. The couple lived in Milaca and Princeton before getting into the hotel property management business together. The business originally took them to Pipestone, and then to Portage and Appleton, Wisconsin, before moving to Gull Lake near Brainerd. Upon Berthel’s passing, Kris moved the family to Hastings where she worked until the late 90’s when she retired to New Ulm to be closer to family. Kris was a hard worker her entire life. She was proud of the work she did, and the family she was able to raise. To relax, Kris always enjoyed a morning cup of coffee out on the lake or on her front porch while in New Ulm. Kris was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and shared that pride through the Icelandic Hekla Club. Kris was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Although Kris lived a long and beautiful life, she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Countless cherished memories will forever stay in the hearts of those who knew her best. Blessed be those memories.
