NEW ULM — Glenn R. Swanson, age 89, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2020 at the Oak Hills Living Center.

Glenn Roger Swanson was born March 3, 1931 in New Ulm to Roy W and Lillian L. (Anderson) Swanson of Lafayette. He was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Lafayette and spent the first eight years of education at the consolidated School District 43 in Lafayette. Glenn later graduated from New Ulm High School as a 49’er in 1949. After high school Glenn served in the US Army’s 8th Corp, some in the Press Corp headquartered in Japan and some in Seoul, Korea. Leaving the Army he returned to Lafayette to farm until his retirement in 1996.

Glenn married Darla Royer in April 14, 1973 and they moved to New Ulm in 2000. Glenn served on the First Lutheran Church Council, as a board member of the Lafayette Good Samaritan Home and Lafayette United Way. He served many leadership positions as President of the Lafayette Shippers, Klossner Oil Coop, Lions club and Commander of the Legion.

Glenn loved his family time as well as bowling, golf and playing cards. After retirement, winters were spent in Gulf Shores, Alabama meeting new and old friends all hiding from the weather of home.

Glenn is survived by his children: Rad (Tina) Royer of Aitkin, Denise (Greg) Armbruster of Alexandria and Ross (Deb Baumgard) Royer of Truman; grandchildren: Amy (Chris) Priem, Erika Royer, Dawn Royer, Melanie (Joe) Azen, Matt (Mary) Royer, Andrew (Serena) Christensen, Jason Royer, Stacy (Brandon) Larson and Jessica (Chad) Royer and 17 great-grandchildren.
