Hazel Harriet Otto was born Dec. 10, 1943, in New Ulm to Lester and Agnes (Voges) Otto. She was a 1961 graduate from Nicollet High School and later attained her beauticians training at the Mankato Beauty School. On Sept. 14, 1963, Hazel was united in marriage to Norman Meinert at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet. This union blessed the couple with three children whom together they raised in rural Sleepy Eye. The couple later divorced. In life, Hazel worked as a beautician at the Divine Providence Senior Living Community as well as the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye. Hazel also worked at Del Monte in Sleepy Eye as well as assisted on the farm driving grain truck and helping where she could. She had a lifelong strong work ethic and was always a hard worker no matter what she was doing. Besides her work, there were a variety of hobbies she enjoyed in life. As one who could not pass up a deal, Hazel enjoyed stopping at local flea markets and garage sales. Hazel also had a unique collection of salt and pepper shakers and clocks many of which were found at these stops. Hazel lived her life with a giving spirit. She was a wonderful mother and provider. Her baking, cooking, canning, and gardening talents will never be forgotten. Her family will never forget her famous eggrolls. Many great memories were made with family and friends over the years while camping in her Scamp. In her later years, she enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune or the Price is Right. Hazel was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, as well as a thrift store volunteer at New2You and the Treasure House. Hazel truly lived a full life filled with the spirit of Christ and carried this to her final days. Knowing the power of His love brought her peace. She had a fighting spirit in a failing body, but it did not slow her down. Hazel cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, and especially loved getting to see her grandsons grow. Hazel touched many lives in her 77 years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Blessed be her memory.
