Leon Joseph Kirchner

MADELIA — Leon Joseph Kirchner, 75, of Madelia, died on January 2, 2020, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Madelia, on Wednesday, January 8, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Madelia. Military rites by the Madelia Area Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic School, Madelia, beginning with rosary prayer at 4 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia.

Leon Joseph Kirchner was born on August 21, 1944, in Slayton, to Clarence and Bernita (Flynn) Kirchner.

Leon was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He was awarded the Purple Heart and earned 3 Bronze Stars.

Leon is survived by his wife, Donna Kirchner; sons, Lance Kirchner, Scott Kirchner; daughter, Megan; brothers, Raymond, Ronald, Jerry Kirchner; sisters, Carol, Judy, and Joan; and 6 grandchildren.
