Howard Fischer

NEW ULM — Howard Fischer, age 84 of New Ulm died peacefully on Nov. 24, 2019, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-South Chapel in New Ulm. Father Gerald Meidl will officiate, and burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the funeral home social hall immediately following the service.

Full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Howard is survived by distant relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Howard Fischer was born Dec. 15, 1934 in New Ulm to Ralph and Elvera Fischer. He was a 1952 graduate from Cathedral High School in New Ulm. Howard furthered his education at St. John’s University, and later attained his degree in English from the University of Minnesota. Howard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to ’54. He worked for 30 years at Control Data in the Twin Cities before moving back to New Ulm where he worked at 3M until his retirement. Howard was an avid reader his entire life, but also dearly enjoyed riding bike, watching TV, and keeping up with the stock markets. He was a long time member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm Blessed be his memory.
