Ruth B. Borth

SLEEPY EYE — Ruth B. Borth, age 91 of Sleepy Eye died peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2019, at her home in Sleepy Eye.

Funeral service will be at 2 pm on Friday, October 4, 2019, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Pastor Nathanael Mayhew will officiate the service, and burial will follow in the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. A reception will be held at the church following the committal service.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 pm on Thursday, and continue from 1-2 pm on Friday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes are assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Betty (Eugene) Bottin of Windom; her sons, Gary (Pamela) Borth of Oakland, Tennessee, Eugene (Betty Jo) Borth of Burnsville, Rick (Linda) Borth of Sleepy Eye, Brian (Jayne) Borth of Sleepy Eye, Robert “Bob” (Michelle) Borth of Sleepy Eye; 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Loaine Williams of Prescott Valley, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Murel Borth in 1988; her daughter-in-law, Karen Borth; grandson, Joshua Borth; sister, Marcella Schroeder; and brother-in-law, Lyle Borth.

Ruth Bertha Freyholtz was born May 25, 1928, in Wellington Township-Fairfax, Minnesota to Franz and Anna (Grosam) Freyholtz. She was baptized and later confirmed into the faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax. On September 25, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage to Murel Borth. This union blessed the couple with six children. The family moved to Sleepy Eye in 1953 where Ruth worked at a variety of local businesses over the years including Pietrus, Del Monte, the City of Sleepy Eye, and 3M in New Ulm where she eventually retired. Besides her work there were a variety of things that brought Ruth joy in life including listening to old time music, sewing, and doing puzzles. What she truly loved most in life was her family. She loved every moment she got to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Ruth will be forever remembered by family and friends as a caring, charming, soft spoken women who always considered the needs of others before her own.

Memorials are preferred to the Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, the New Ulm Medical Center Oncology Department, or the donor’s choice.
