Kathleen “Kathy” Zins

NICOLLET — Kathleen “Kathy” Zins, 77, of Nicollet died Friday, August 2, 2019 at St. Mary’s Campus Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with Pastor Jim Danell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 – 11 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements. Kathleen is survived by her husband, John L. Zins of Nicollet; daughters, Yvonne (Doug) Pilot of Inver Grove Heights, Shelly (Randy) Dorn of Nicollet; son, Chris (Erika) Zins of St. Michael; grandchildren, Justin Dorn, Bianca Zins, Elissa Dorn, Trevor Zins; sisters, Betty (Bruce) Schmidt of Nicollet, Linda (Ron) Strand of Rapidan; brother, Charles “Chuck” (Beth) Otto of Nicollet. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kathleen Marie Otto was born on November 30, 1941 in New Ulm to Elden and Alice (Gieseke) Otto. She graduated from Nicollet High School in 1959 and Mankato Commercial College. On June 2, 1962 she was united in marriage to John L. Zins at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Mankato. Kathy was a secretary at the Nicollet High School and then worked in Human Resources at South Central College in North Mankato until retiring in April of 2008. She also worked as office manager at her daughter’s non-profit ministry known as Lutheran Braille Evangelism. Kathy enjoyed gardening, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, and the Ladies Guild at church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to: Trinity Ev. Lutheran church, Lutheran Braille Evangelism, or the donor’s choice.
