Bruce Joseph Wiesner

NEW ULM — Bruce Joseph Wiesner, age 72, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier’s Rest section. The New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the South Chapel.

Bruce is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Vernita Wiesner of New Ulm; his daughter, Christie (Kyle) Muklebust of New Ulm; son, Jay (Robert) Wiesner-Smith of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Egan Muklebust, Brighton Muklebust, Oaklee Muklebust; brothers, Doug (Linda Fierst) Wiesner of New Ulm, David (Jill) Wiesner of Rochester; siblings-in-law, Paul (Dawn) Nelemans of Waseca, Helen Carlson of Minnetonka; Kathy Grebner of Rapid City, SD; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wenzel Wiesner; brother-in-law, John Carlson; and sister-in-law, Bev Wiesner.

Bruce Joseph Wiesner was born January 23, 1947 to Wenzel and Viola (Strassburg) Wiesner in New Ulm. Bruce graduated from New Ulm High School and went on to enlist in the Navy, where he proudly served his country from 1966-1971. On July 18, 1970, Bruce was united in marriage to Vernita Nelemans in New Ulm and their union was blessed with two children. After his military service, Bruce began working at New Ulm Wholesale as a truck driver. He worked his way into a sales role and then as a buyer until he retired at the age of 60. When he was not working, Bruce enjoyed playing cards with his friends, coaching girls fast pitch softball and girls basketball, playing in a softball league with his friends, and watching and cheering for the Twins, Vikings, and the Gophers Girls Softball Team. Bruce also enjoyed spending time at Turner Hall, the VFW, the American Legion, and providing military honors with the Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Many special memories were made traveling with his wife and spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren. Bruce will be dearly missed by those who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
