Henry Mathwig

Henry Mathwig, 91, Mankato, died Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday, June 28, 2019 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.

Henry was born May 7, 1928 to Fred and Minnie (Witte) Mathwig in Nicollet County. Henry was united in marriage to Janice Goings on June 19, 1948 in Mankato. He worked for C&N Sales for 26 years before retiring in 1980. After retirement he owned and operated Hank’s Eastside in Hanska until 1987. In 1989 Janice passed away. Henry then drove for Dittrich of New Ulm before retiring in 1991. In 1991 he moved to Michigan, where he married Ellnora Pfeifer. Ellnora passed away in 1997 and Henry moved back to Minnesota in 1998. In November of 1999 Henry married Marian Degner and the couple made their home in Waldorf before Marian passed away in March of 2009. In his free time Henry enjoyed fishing, dancing to old time music, and watching the Twins and was a big fan of the Vikings. He was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato.

Henry is survived by son, Charles (Salle) Mathwig of Eagle River Alaska; daughters, Beverly (Dan) Christians of Butte, MT, Barbara (Anthony) Ubl of New Ulm; and Mary (Dave) Hennegar of Mankato; ten grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by wives, Janice, Ellnora, and Marian; son, Ricky; and siblings, Arnold, Velma, Loretta, Elger, Alice, Richard and Viola.
