Elizabeth “Betty” Martinka

NEW ULM — Elizabeth “Betty” Martinka, age 93, of New Ulm, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018 at Woodstone Assisted Living in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Jo Anne Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Jean (Randy) Frederickson of Willmar; sons, David (Lynn) Martinka of New Ulm, Steven (Becky) Martinka of Spicer, and John (Holly) Martinka of Chatfield; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Red” Martinka; son, Bradley Martinka; and her parents.

Elizabeth H. Dannheim was born November 24, 1924 to William and Helen (Barth) Dannheim in New Ulm. Betty graduated from New Ulm High School. She then attended the University of Minnesota Nursing School where she received her degree. On September 4, 1948 she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Eugene Martinka at the St. Mary’s Rectory in New Ulm. Betty worked as a Registered Nurse at Union Hospital in New Ulm. She then became a homemaker and focused on raising her family. She enjoyed cooking, but most of all, Betty loved spending time with her family. Betty was a member of Eastern Star, Crescendo, volunteered at Meals on Wheels and the New Ulm Medical Center, served as the Treasurer at First United Methodist Church, where she was the longest living member at the time of her passing.

Memorials are preferred to Allina Hospice, First United Methodist Church, or the Lions Club of New Ulm.
