Elmer Clarence Guggisberg was born September 29, 1945 in New Ulm to Elmer H. and Priska (Klossner) Guggisberg. He was a 1963 graduate from Cathedral High School. After High School, Elmer joined his father on the farm. He produced a fine herd of dairy cows, and farrowed hogs along with raising crops. On April 19, 1966, Elmer was united in marriage to Lois Zupfer at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. This union blessed the couple with five children whom together they raised on their farm. In 1993, Elmer sold the dairy herd and went to work at Kraft in raw materials until 2002. Elmer then went to work at Runnings in New Ulm until 2008 and later moved to New Ulm in 2013. Elmer truly loved the work he did. If he was busy doing meaningful work he was happy. He loved to work, and he also enjoyed helping young farmers out as well. He cared for everybody. Besides his work, Elmer also spent a lot of time volunteering for such organizations as the New Ulm Clinic, the Food Shelf, MRCI, Essig Baseball Association, the Way of the Cross, many Knights of Columbus fish fry’s, and was also an active supporter of Life Source. He was a devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm where he was also active with the Knights of Columbus. Elmer also served several years as a board member for the Brown County REA. Besides all that Elmer did and gave in life, what brought him the greatest joy was his family. He was truly proud of his entire family, and dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandson. Although his passing seems so sudden, Elmer will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
