BEST HOTEL/MOTEL Best Western Plus

The Best Western Plus located at 2101 S. Broadway St once again received Reader’s Choice for Best Hotel.
NEW ULM — Best Western Plus secured the top honor again this year as the Reader’s Choice Best Hotel in New Ulm.
Located on South Broadway near the intersection with Highway 37, the 117-room dog-friendly hotel features an indoor heated pool and hot tub, full complimentary breakfast, multiple fitness options and an on-site restaurant. Banquet and conference halls are also available in the hotel, as are all the modern amenities today’s travelers expect in overnight accommodations.
For general manager Bobbi Fuhr, the honor is extra special.
“It is a big deal. I think it’s great. I’m excited, especially taking over the property just in February. It’s an honor and it’s an exciting thing to have happen.”
Fuhr ran Perkins for 26 years before taking over as general manager at Best Western Plus in February.
Fuhr said with managing over 35 employees, with housekeeping and maintenance, breakfast attendants and guest service representatives, “There’s never enough time.”
“My days are pretty crazy,” she said. “I usually start my day about 5:30 in the morning, start running reports at home and then I go in. I start running some errands. You know, there’s always something to pick up, some stuff for breakfast, like bananas and grab stuff like that.”
“And then I’m on property usually around 6:30. I check in with the night audit, see how their night went. And then I might check on breakfast. And then my day just kind of gets crazy from there.”
It’s been a busy time and an exciting one for her.
“It’s been exciting to me to initiate a lot of changes since I’ve come on board. Just in terms of doing some upgrades like focusing on sundries and really upgrading that. The sundries area here is like a market pantry where you offer things that are helpful for guests,” she said.
Fuhr said that while the hotel is busy year round, especially during all the community festivals, “the summer season is what keeps us hopping,” both in terms of the number of guests as well as hotel maintenance projects.
She said hotel crews are busy cleaning and freshening up all the rooms and planting shrubs along the entry of the property.
“I think my staff is the main reason we got this award,” Fuhr said, “and that’s the biggest reason why I took over this property. The staff here just does a really great job. They take pride in what they do. They really care about the guests and they go above and beyond to make the guests happy.”
