New Ulm Police
• Responded to an assault report Monday involving two 11-year-old girls from New Ulm. The report included shoving and spitting. Scrapes were noticed on one of the girls’ arms. Officers asked both parents to attempt to handle the issue among themselves. A report was done for documentation.
• Received a call from Mayo Health Systems, Mankato at 8:42 a.m. Monday about a homicidal comment left on voicemail to a provider from a 53-year-old New Ulm man. Police talked to a man who denied making any comments or leaving a voicemail. The man later agreed to be transported to New Ulm Medical Center. A report was done for documentation.
• Stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at 9:08 p.m. Sunday at Broadway and 9th Street North. Police talked to a 29-year-old New Ulm woman and noticed THC packaging on the vehicle floor. The woman was cited for open cannabis package in a motor vehicle. A report was done for documentation.
• Took a report at 6:57 p.m. Sunday of stolen bicycle from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The bike is a 21-speed Schwinn mountain bike valued at $150. A report was done for documentation.
• Located a 23-year-old homeless man riding his bicycle at 6:07 p.m. Saturday near Broadway and 20th Street North who had a Renville County arrest warrant. The man was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report was done for documentation.
• Took a report at 4:28 p.m. Friday of a sexual assault involving a 17-year-old New Ulm boy and 13-year-old New Ulm girl. The boy was arrested and transported to the Carver County Juvenile Detention Center. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for consideration of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.

• Received a one-vehicle crash report with non-life threatening injuries at 9:18 a.m. Tuesday. Gregory Glen Benson, 55, Willmar, was driving a 2017 Kenworth concrete truck northbound on Highway 71 when it tipped on its side attempting a right turn onto 340th Street. The truck landed on the driver’s side. Benson wore a seat belt but was transported to CentraCare Hospital, Redwood Falls. Assisting agencies were the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Redwood Falls Fire Department and CentraCare Ambulance.
• Received a one-vehicle crash report with injuries at 4:36 a.m. Sunday on Highway 212 and McLeod County Road 7, Stewart. Katherine Grace Vonholtum, 29, Minneapolis, was driving a 2007 Saturn Ion westbound on Highway 212, lost control and rolled into the ditch at CR 7. She was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. A passenger, Christopher Michael Benton, 27, Redwood Falls, was transported to Hutchinson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both people wore seat belts. Assisting agencies were the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office, Stewart and Brownton Fire Departments, Buffalo Lake Ambulance and Allina Ambulance.
