The Bakery Giveaway will be held twice a week from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays. The Bakery Giveaway is an extension of the Food Shelf's normal offerings. NEW ULM — The New Ulm Fire Department responded to an explosion reported at 8:19 a.m. Tuesday at New Ulm Apartments, 320 19th Street North. “There was lots of steam and little bit of smoke when we got there,” said New Ulm Fire Chief Paul Macho. “A pipe exploded between the first and second floor. The total cost for the new building is estimated to cost $200,000, but the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has awarded the City of New Ulm a $100,000 matching grant for the project.
