NEW ULM — Saturday, March 7th, fourteen members of the Minnesota Valley Lutheran (MVL) High School speech team competed at the Redwood Valley speech tournament.

The following students received one or two outs in their categories: Abbie Meitner in great speeches, Maddie Meitner in humorous, and Taylor LaGrow in poetry.

Seven additional students qualified for finals, where Sophia Ulrich earned second in creative expression, Oliver Nelson received fifth in discussion, Paige Berg and Liz Halvorson won fourth and Britta Berg and Olive Clemons earned fifth in duo, and Neveya Swanson earned fifth in extemporaneous reading.

These results won the team second place in the small schools division of the tournament, the first trophy earned by MVL since the 2022 season.
