LWV neighborhood walkabouts start this week
NEW ULM – The League of Women Voters (LWV) invites the public to lace up their walking shoes and explore nature in the community through the Neighborhood Walkabout series.
Five walks are scheduled each week in June in different New Ulm neighborhoods during the first few weeks of the month. The walks are open to everyone. Each will involve eight blocks of walking, beginning and ending at the same location.
A member of the New Ulm tree commission will lead each walk and provide information on neighborhood trees including species identification, the right trees for various soil types, location, size, etc. Information on branching, pruning, watering, damage and other facts. The commissioner will also answer questions from those attending the walk.
The first walk is 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 5 at the northwest corner of N. 4th and Franklin Street.
The second walk is 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 7 at 8th N. and Washington Street in Washington Park.
The third walk is 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 at Martin Luther College near the bike path off Highland Ave.
The fourth walk is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at the Harman Park shelter.
The final walk is 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 at Nehls Park.
All ages are welcome; however, children under the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult. Walking will be on sidewalks, and last about an hour. People may join, or leave, the walk at any time.
