Free S.A.V.E. Training Offered July 22 for Veterans
NEW ULM — The Brown County Mental Health and Wellness Team, an action team of The Heart of New Ulm, will host a free Veterans (VA) S.A.V.E. training on July 22, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Ulm Field Maintenance Facility, 2100 Palmer Drive.
Veterans, their families, and all community members are welcome. There is no charge to attend and lunch will be provided, courtesy of Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes.
The VA S.A.V.E. Training will help individuals act with care and compassion if they encounter a Veteran who is in crisis or experiencing suicidal thoughts. The acronym S.A.V.E. helps individuals remember the important steps involved in suicide prevention:
S: Signs of suicidal thinking should be recognized
A: Ask the most important question of all — “Are you thinking of killing yourself?”
V: Validate the Veteran’s experience
E: Encourage treatment and Expedite getting help
The presenter will be Andrea Perrry, RN, MN, Community Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator with the Minneapolis VA Health Care System — Suicide Prevention.
