Hot Topics: Community Visioning Groups

NEW ULM — In 2016, over 100 New Ulm residents met for a day of prioritizing projects, issues, concerns and opportunities for the future of the community. Fast forward to 2019: four of the groups that were started that day have continued to meet, make progress, push forward and refine their purpose. In March, there will be two Hot Topics lunches to highlight the work of 3 of the 4 continuing community visioning groups.

On March 7, at noon at the New Ulm Country Club, the Housing Initiative group will give an update on the housing situation in New Ulm and the work they are doing. Presenters will be Chris Dalton, City of New Ulm and Dan Braam, Alliance Bank. The second presentation on March 7 will be about the efforts of the Business Education Network group. This new committee within the Chamber is to help coordinate the efforts of partnering with the education system as one strategy to meet workforce needs. Junior Achievement, ISD 88 educators and administration, Network New Ulm Youth and business leaders have been meeting for updates and to move forward.

On the Friday, March 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Downtown Action Team will be the focus. This group has considered a variety of project and initiatives that impact the heart of our community. With downtown being the center where commerce, retail, local government and professional services intersect, what are the opportunities and challenges that need to be addressed?

Lunch is $10 and payable at the door. Reservations required. Please RSVP to the Chamber at 507-233-4300 or chamber@newulm.com.
