Brown County DFL Convention delegates pass 20 resolutions
NEW ULM — Brown County DFL Convention delegates passed 20 resolutions at the New Ulm Community Center Saturday.
The resolutions include keeping all voter information private and out of the hands of federal representatives and appointed officials, according to states’ rights and the constitution.
The DFL supports the rights of immigrant people and calls for enforcement of their rights to due process, and a halt to the inhumane policies and practices of ICE and Customs and Border Patrol, including ICE incursions in civic gathering places such as houses of worship, schools, hospitals, clinics or government offices.
Other resolutions are passage of a new, comprehensive Farm Bill that includes a strong farm safety net with effective payment limitations, a restored nutrition title, a strong competition title, and strong investments in local food, conservation, climate smart agriculture and research.
The Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment to ensure that freedom, fairness and equality is part of Minnesota’s Constitution, and so all Minnesotan’s rights are protected.
Supporting ongoing commitment to our NATO allies and Ukraine’s efforts to defend its territory against Russian aggression. It also recognized the importance of our long relationship with our allies and positive relationships with other nations in maintaining world stability and peace.
Policies that protect the health of all Minnesotans by ensuring access to clean, safe drinking water and providing free water testing, education, and remediation for private wells.
Calling for a restoration of environmental protections repealed or weakened by the Trump Administration.
A prohibition on the Trump administration’s efforts to allow foreign mining companies to exploit our public lands and waters; and a reinstatement of the ban on toxic mining, including sulfur-ore copper mining, Twin Metals mining, and mining in all watersheds within and connected to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
The commitment of significant resources to promote legislation that will create a health care system that puts patients over profits by enacting the Minnesota Health Plan (Marty/Liebling) at the state level and the Medicare for All Act (Jayapal/Sanders) at the national level.
Fair competition with a halt to further corporate consolidation and monopoly control of the media, tech industry, agricultural, food systems, the medical system, and all sectors of our economy through enforcement of federal and state antitrust laws; and passing the Fair Competition Act to strengthen price discrimination laws.
Repealing Citizens United, reform campaign spending, supporting a cap on campaign funds (tiered to level of campaign) to the same amount for all candidates in a race, the abolition of “Citizens United,” and full transparency of campaign funding from candidates.
Limiting corporate money in elections including the amendment of laws so they cannot be interpreted as granting corporations the power to expand anything of value, directly or indirectly, to influence elections.
Expansion of state-funded public education, supporting full funding of public education from pre-school to 2 years post-secondary. This includes tuition free technical and trade programs; and quality daycare services to all income families to enrich children’s lives and aid in the stability of working parents.
Transition to a green economy, urging government and corporations to adopt policies to implement clean energy, energy efficiency and de-
carbonization of transportation systems; protect and restore natural ecosystems for carbon capture and sequestration. This also promotes and incentivizes 100% renewable energy at landowner and utility scale.
AI Safety and Transparency, supporting transparency and disclosure of any AI altered media used by corporations, election campaigns and public entities, and supports limitations to tech companies’ involvement and promotion in government affairs without proper vetting and disclosure of intent.
Supporting the passage of the Social Security Expansion Act (SSEA) to make Social Security solvent, fair and equitable for the next 75 years.
Supporting a loan program for farmers of locally grown foods, edible crops or livestock by providing low interest, 30 year loans on up to $300,000 for purchase or rent 40 acres or less of land, and/or equipment, forgivable after 15 years if the farm shows profits for the last 3 years.
Accountability of ICE and CBP, supporting leveraging the power of states to sue for damages due to constitutional violations by federal ICE and CBP agents. This includes suspending ICE funding until major reforms are made, holding federal agents accountable for their actions, enacting meaningful immigration reform and securing the freedom of the press.
Reforming ICE including requiring the use of body cameras, prohibiting masks and face coverings and recording with agents’ personal cell phones, a ban on the use of chemical weapons and tear gas, thorough background checks before hiring ICE agents, and proper training before starting active duty.
Full, fair investigation of ICE agent killings. This calls for a full and proper investigation into the killings of Minnesota residents by ICE and CBP, to be conducted by state and local law enforcement.
