Heat record set Friday

Saturday warm again with more wind

NEW ULM — A 28-year-old heat record (set in 1997) fell by the wayside Friday as New Ulm’s temperature reached 90 degrees.

“A lot of cities are breaking or tying heat records,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Tyler Hasenstein. “It’s not real unusual to have weather this warm this time of year, but it’s unusual to have it for this long. We’ve had the same air mass over us for the past couple weeks.”

Hasenstein said warm weather continues Saturday with 15-25 mph sustained winds and gusts 35-45 mph.

“It’ll be slightly cooler Sunday. We’ll cool down to near normal temperatures in the 60s Monday and Tuesday before going back into the 70s by Wednesday and Thursday,” he said.

A small chance of rain, about 20%, is possible Sunday night and Wednesday into Thursday.

“A dry pattern is forecast for at least the next couple weeks. There are better rain chances the second half of October,” said Hasenstein.

Starting at $4.50/week.
