SLEEPY EYE — Lovers of musical theater, concerts, history and everything in between should enjoy “Six,” a British musical comedy Oct. 2-5 at Sleepy Eye High School.

A live band includes Josiah Siefkes on electric guitar, pianist Anders Coulson plus Chloe Okerman, Elsie Weicherding and Jake Haynes on perscussion.

Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 in the Sleepy Eye High School Auditorium.

The production is a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII in the form of a singing competition/pop concert.

The wives take turns telling their stories to determine who suffered the most from their shared husband, but ultimately seek to reclaim their original identities and rewrite their stories.

“The show invites conversations about history, power, women’s voices, and perspective–all while pushing our cast vocally and dramatically and inspiring our entire cast to deliver a spectacular performance,” said director George Hirschboeck. “It gives our students the chance to learn and grow artistically, offering our community and the surrounding area a production unlike anything they’ve seen before.”

He further described the musical as an 80-minute rock concert with lots of music and dancing, the musical includes a live band on stage, adding to the musical energy.

The six wives include Megan Sellner, Kamille Capacia, Greta Siefkes, Kenley Jensen, Camryn Maher and Jaelynn Schauman.

Megan Sellner said the musical’s music and dancing were challenging but the overall experience is rewarding.

“I love the costumes. The cast is fun to work with,” she said.

“I love that its so much different than other musicals. It has much more music than previous productions,” said Siefkes.

“Our director much a lot of time into the performance. I think it’ll be the best-ever musical here. Everybody put in a lot of work just to be here. I thank everybody who helped out,” said Maher.

“Mature audiences will really enjoy the modern telling of this story,” said Schauman.

“I love how everything is amped up. It’s more like a concert than a musical,” said Paige Thoms, who plays a lady-in-waiting (female personal attendant). Arianna Guerra and Madison Seifert are the other ladies-in-waiting.

Tickets will be available at the door, one hour prior to each performance. Adults are $12, students $8.

Starting at $4.50/week.
