NEW ULM — Baseball fans at Johnson Park enjoyed some of the usual popular food during the New Ulm Brewers-Searles game on Sunday.

But experienced something new.

BrewCrew Beer, brewed by August Schell Brewing Company, made its debut in a blue and white can.

The beer will only be served at Johnson or Mueller Parks for Brewers, VFW and American Legion games.

“We have been working with Kyle Marti of Schell’s on that for a long time,” LeRoy Flor, Concession Chairman of the New Ulm Baseball Association said. “We wanted to get our own beer can at Johnson and Mueller Parks. We had it all done last year, but it got done too late.”

Flor said that initial response to the new can was positive.

“No one else has ever done this before,” Flor said “This will be a limited edition and if we do it again, we will have a new can design.”

This year’s can design has “BrewCrew Beer” and the “Official Beer of Johnson Park” on the can. Also on the can is “Field of the Year.”

“And on top of the can are the list of the Tomahawk East League teams, with the exception of Lamberton [which cannot sell beer] — and St. James got into the league too late.”

Matt Irwin of Schell’s is the designer of the can.

Those at the game Sunday also witnessed something that maybe has never been seen before.

“We started serving food at 3:30 p.m. [for a 5 p.m. game], it was a seven-inning game,” Flor said. “When the game was over, we still had 25 people in line for food. We were ready for it. But it was a great day for the food and the new BrewCrew Beer can.”
