Lawmaker also announces $1.125 million for 18th Street Lift Station
NEW ULM — The crosswind runway was
not the only New Ulm project to received federal
funding this session. Klobuchar said the
city also received $1.125 million for the 18th
Street Lift Station project.
The 18th Street Lift Station project
would help automate the flood control in
this area by pumping water on the city side
of the levy back into the Minnesota River.
“The lift station would allow us to automate
the entire system and having the
pumping capacity to reduce the near flooding
events,” Stadheim said.
There are homes that need to be protected
from flooding, but the primary protection
is the 20 South Street sanitary sewer
lift station. This sewer collects 95% of New
Ulm’s sewage and pumps it to the treatment
plant.
The 18th Street Lift Station is another
longterm project the city has hoped to complete.
Stadheim said the city could hit the
ground running on the lift station project as
well. If the weather cooperates, the lift station
installation could be done in 2024.
