New Ulm Police

• Responded to a two-vehicle crash with suspected minor injury at 11th North Street and Jefferson Street at 4:55 p.m. March 10. A 2011 Chevy Impala driven by Deborah Ann Clyne, 70, New Ulm, was northbound on Jefferson St., approaching 11th North when it collided with a 2017 GMC Acadia driven by Casey Lynn Eckstein, 42, New Ulm, who was eastbound on 11th North. Damage was moderate to the front end of the Impala and moderate to the right passenger side of the GMC. Clyne had a suspected minor injury. Both drivers wore seat belts.

• Stopped a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old New Ulm man at Broadway and 12th Street North for an equipment violation. The driver was cited for window tint too dark, open bottle and DWI. He was transported to the Brown County Jail. Reports were sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office and Brown County Probation.

• Noticed a 45-year-old homeless woman riding a bicycle near 16th Street South and Valley at 12:35 p.m. Saturday. The woman had Brown County arrest warrants for burglary and trespassing. She was transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.

• Responded to Hy-Vee Food Store, 2015 S. Broadway at 4:38 p.m. Saturday for a woman allegedly stealing groceries. Officers viewed surveillance video and witnesses the theft. Police located a suspect vehicle on South German St. and contacted the suspect, a 42-year-old Green Bay woman. She admitted to stealing two shrimp platters valued at $19.95 each and was cited for theft. A report was done for documentation.

Later in the day, the woman was arrested for DWI, issued a citation and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.

• Took a report of a dog attacking another dog at 2104 Highland Ave. N. at 8:21 p.m. Saturday. A 58-year-old New Ulm woman said her dog and her hand were bitten. The woman took her dog to a veterinarian, then went to the New Ulm Medical Center Emergency Room for her hand injuries. A report went to police animal control.

• Received numerous calls of an explosion at New Ulm Steel & Recycling about 1:40 p.m. Monday. The firm acknowledged an explosion occurred. A report went to New Ulm City Hall.

• Responded to a parking complaint Monday afternoon. Officers noticed a vehicle leaving a parking stall. Poor driving conduct wasa observed and a traffic stop was made. The driver, a 70-year-old New Ulm woman appeared confused. A request for driver examination was sent to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

• Received a two-vehicle crash report without injuries at Broadway and 13th North at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday. Gloria Scheid, 84, New Ulm, was backing a 2018 Ford Explorer out of a parking stall at Chuck Spaeth Ford and collided with a legally parked 2021 Ford Bronco. Damage was minor to the rear passenger side of the Explorer and moderate to the driver’s side door of the Bronco. Scheid wore a seat belt.

Renville County Sheriff’s Office

• Received a 911 call at 12:47 p.m. Sunday about a vehicle that left the road and hit a field approach on CR 20, north of CR 11, Boon Lake Township, about 10 miles northeast of Buffalo Lake.

A 2014 Chevrolet Captiva driven by Becky Chase, 60, Bird Island was located. Passengers were Natasha Chase, 28, Olivia; and 10, 8 and five-year-old juveniles from Litchfield.

A preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was northbound on CR 20, entered the northbound ditch, hit a field approach, went airborne and came to a stop in the ditch.

All vehicle occupants were transported by ambulance to Health Partners-Hutchinson. Two juveniles were transported by Life Link III helicopter to Children’s Hospital, Minneapolis.

Assisting agencies were Buffalo Lake Fire/Ambulance, Hector Ambulance, Allina Ambulance Hutchinson, Hutchinson Fire and the Minnesota State Patrol.
