SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye Public School board unanimously approved a fiscal year 2025 facilities maintenance plan Wednesday.
Action came on a motion by board member Joleen Dittbenner, seconded by Casey Coulson.
Consultant Tim Harbo said the plan includes $200,000 for 2024 roof repair and a small amount of asbestos work in 2025. He said the school district will receive about $50,000 per year for the next 10 years for health and safety projects.
Superintendent John Cselovszki was not at the meeting due to a Hormel Gifted & Talented symposium he was attending. His report included information on swapping out an existing building entry security system for a new program that will scan staff and student photo identification badges for added safety, using elementary door 2 at the main point of entry.
Finance Director Amanda Boomgarden said the 2023-2024 district budget remains an estimate since Minnesota Department of Education financial figures have not yet been received.
The Fiscal year 2024 general fund budget of $8,393,907 is 3.9% greater than the FY 2023 adapted budget of $8,077,393. Estimated revenues for 2023-24 are $9,296,032. Expenses of $9,375,415 are $79,383 above estimated revenues.
The board approved hiring superintendent administrative assistant Idalia Martinez from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 at $20/hr., eight hours a day.
Approved donations included $250 from PetVet CareCenters, LCC to the FFA program, $40 to the athletic dept. from Myron and Kathy Seidl, $100 to track boosters from Prairie Plan/David and Lori Milbrath and $500 to benefit special needs program from the St. Mary’s Council 3134 Knights of Columbus.
