Online connection leads to criminal sex charges
Twenty-year old man faces five charges
NEW ULM — A 20-year-old man faces five felony charges after an alleged May 9 sexual encounter with an underage female in the backseat of a truck in the New Ulm Walmart parking lot.
Felony 3rd and 4th-degree criminal sexual conduct charges, victim age 14-15; use of minors in sexual performance, possess pornographic work and solicit child or believe to be a child through electronic communication to engage in sexual conduct charges were filed May 19 against Quinten Alexander Lovelady of Modesto, Ca. Unconditional bail was set at $100,000; $50,000 with conditions.
According to court documents, New Ulm Police Investigator Tara Martin met with the victim and her mother at the Brown County Law Enforcement Center May 16. The victim said she noticed bumps on her genitals, went to the New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) and was diagnosed with genital herpes after having unprotected sex with the man May 9. The girl said Lovelady ejaculated in her vagina and that prior to that, she was a virgin and had not had sexual intercourse.
The girl said Lovelady was a stranger to her that she connected with randomly online and exchanged Snapchat usernames.
Investigator Martin saw video of the girl having unprotected sex in the backseat of a white truck in the Walmart parking lot. The girl said she was unaware Lovelady took videos of them having sex or having her phone.
The girl confirmed the videos originated on her phone. The videos are considered child pornography as the girl is completely naked in having sexual intercourse with the man.
The girl said she was intoxicated and could not recall how she got home. She said Lovelady provided her with whiskey in a clear water bottle without a label, they had unprotected sex twice, then she blacked out due to consuming so much alcohol.
The victim said she just turned 14 and Lovelady claimed to be 17 and he knew she was 14 years old.
Investigator Martin authored a search warrant, approved by a judge, that was submitted to Snapchat. While opening source records, in an attempt to identify the male that the girl had sex with, Investigator Martin determined the male was Lovelady.
Investigator Martin found a Twitter account and determined he currently lives in Rochester, Mn. Rochester Police were contacted for records involving Lovelady. Investigator Martin learned he was known to be associated with a white truck like the one the girl described, specifically a 2020 Toyota Tundra.
Investigator Martin received information showing Lovelady accepted the girl as a Snapchat friend again and communication continued to a Textnow number used by the girl and Lovelady.
Investigator Martin took over communication with Lovelady on May 17 as he was interested in coming back to New Ulm.
Investigator Martin posed as the victim and discussion with Lovelady was sexual in nature. Lovelady asked if he should bring condoms to their next encounter. Lovelady agreed to come to New Ulm May 18 to have sexual intercourse at a hotel he would obtain using fake identification.
Using the Textnow platform, Lovelady sent photographs of his face via Snapchat and agreed to come to New Ulm at 8 a.m. May 18; then later offered to come to New Ulm at 11 p.m. May 17.
At about 10 p.m., Investigator Martin begin surveillance in the area where Lovelady earlier picked up the girl and gave him instructions to park on a street with a No Outlet sign that he later confirmed via text messages.
At 11:10 p.m., Lovelady arrived in a white 2020 Toyota Tundra and parked parallel to Investigator Martin on the 1100 block of 17th North Street, and was arrested.
Lovelady implied to Investigator Martin that he had no permanent address but that his mother’s address in Modesto, Ca. should be used for mailing. It should be noted that Lovelady has valid driver’s licenses in California, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Investigator Martin submitted a search warrant application that was signed by a judge May 18 for STD (sexually transmitted disease) testing and photographs from Lovelady. Investigator Martin made arrangements with NUMC and the Brown County Jail to execute the warrant for STD tests and NUMC photographs.
