Johnson Park to host Military Appreciation Day June 24

NEW ULM — The third annual “Military Appreciation Day” will be held Wednesday, June 24, at Johnson Park when the New Ulm Brewers host Leavenworth at 7:30 p.m. in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

“All veterans attending the game will receive a free hamburger or cheeseburger, french fry and a beverage courtesy of the New Ulm Baseball Association,” Flor said.

Last year, 99 veterans received free meals.

Flor said that the gates to the game — which is free admission — will open at 5 p.m and Flor said that food will be served by 5:30 p.m.

Flor said that the New Ulm Legion Color Guard will be in attendance, along with the Legion Riders and their motorcycles.

“The New Ulm Battery will fire a ceremonial salute after the National Anthem,” Flor said. “We will have a “Veteran of the Game” introduction, with a ceremonial first pitch at 7:35, with the game starting at 7:40. And we will have all military songs played between innings.”

Flor said that with the new video scoreboard, there is going to be an attempt to get pictures of Veterans of the Inning put on the scoreboard.”

Flor said that the majority of the legwork for this event was done by Bob Skillings and Joe Eckstein.

“Joe knows what he is doing with the new scoreboard,” Flor said. “And I know that Kyle Marti and Jodi Marti took care of getting the color guard, battery and the Legion Riders.

“This is the New Ulm Baseball Associations way of showing appreciation to our current and former veterans,” Flor said.
