Church of Cash to give concert Saturday at SSTC

The Church of Cash will be playing Saturday. April 22, at the State Street Theater.

NEW ULM — State Street Theater is presenting the premier Johnny Cash tribute show, Church of Cash, at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22.

The group was founded by New Ulm High School graduate, Class of 1993, Jay Ernest Kalk. Kalk is committed to honoring the unique music and sound of Johnny Cash. The loyalty to the song and message that Johnny left to all assures patrons will enjoy Cash classics with Jay and his band.

“I grew up loving the sound of the choir and the booming voice of Johnny Cash.This is in my blood,” says Kalk.

The years since high school and college have found Church of Cash, formed originally in 2009 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the recipient of various awards, including winner of the 2019 Midwest Country Music Organization “Best Tribute Act;” recipient of that same award again in 2021; and Inductee to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2021.

Tickets are available, $25 in advance,at Hy-Vee, New Ulm Chamber of Commerce, backStage Door 7 at the theater 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Event Brite, Info@statestreetnewulm.org, or by calling 359-9990; or $30 at the door the night of the concert. In keeping with the respect both Cash and Church of Cash have for veterans, State Street is providing on site only, a ticket for a free beverage to veterans attending the concert. Patrons will also be able to purchase an “Orange Blossom Special” beverage at the concession stand. Limited parking is available in the theater lot at the corner of Center and Washington Streets. Patrons are not to park in the adjacent lot next door belonging to Emerson Union Apartments.
