Madelia stabbing suspect in custody

MADELIA — A 69-year-old Madelia man is being held in the Watonwan County Jail after a stabbling reported early Monday afternoon at a Madelia mobile home.
The man was taken into custody about three hours after the report of the stabbing at Lot A3, 25 Fifth Street N.W. was received at 12:45 p.m. Monday. He remains in Watonwan County Jail custody, pending charges. The Journal does not as a rule name suspects before they are charged.
Madelia Police and Watonwan County deputies dispatched to the scene found a man with multiple stab wounds, some severe, to the arm and chest, according to a Madelia Police news release.
A Madelia Health ambulance was dispatched to the scene and the victim was transported to Madelia Health Hospital, then transfered to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester for further treatment. His condition was stable, according to news release.
The victim identified a male party as the suspect, recognized by area law enforcement. The suspect fled the scene in a motor vehicle prior to law enforcement’s arrival to the mobile home park, according to Madelia Police Chief Rob Prescher.
Information led law enforcement to an area of South Bend Township in Blue Earth County. Law enforcement including Minnesota River Valley Task Force agents and the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office worked with ongoing information to locate the suspect and take him into custody within three hours of the initial call.
The man was turned over to Madelia Police. There is no danger to the public as a result of the incident, according to the news release.
Chief Prescher said he would not release the name of the victim due to his medical condition.
