Nadel Kunst is back, in back

Knitting supply store opens down the hall from its old location

NEW ULM — Nadel Kunst knitting supply is back open in it’s new location in the back of the same building it was in before.

Nadel Kunst has operated out of front of 212 N. Minnesota Street since 1983 and will continue to operate out of this building, but it has moved down the hall to the back of the building. Those who need knitting supplies can access the shop from the alley entrance in the back or use the front door on Minnesota Street and walked down the hall to new location.

Owner Cindy Hillesheim said last year, they decided to swap locations with New Ulm’s Own Fair Trade Market. Nadel Kunst would move into New Ulm’s Own’s former and New Ulm’s Own will move into Nadel Kunst’s previous spot.

Hillesheim said the two businesses closed in Mid-December ahead of the location swap and Nadel Kunst has officially re-opened as of this week. Area knitting enthusiasts are welcome to drop in for all their needle work needs.

Nadel Kunst is a full needlework shop. In relocating to the back of the building, Hilleshem is refocusing the shop on knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She confirmed the shop will continue to have the full line of DMC embroidery floss.

Stacks of colorful yarn and sewing supplies are stocked in the shelves at the Nadel Kunst.

Hillesheim said with the cold weather many people are coming for materials to knit hats, scarves and mittens. The beverage mittens are also popular, with BockFest fast approaching.

Nadel Kunst’s hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

New Ulm’s Own is expected to reopen by March 3. The store front is currently undergoing renovation before reopening. Jeanie Hinsman of New Ulm’s Own confirmed that a barber shop will also open in the building sometime in the next few months.
