NEW ULM — The CAST Senior Center has added the 8-hour initial Senior Driver Refresher Course to its class offerings in 2023. The 8-hour class is the prerequisite for the 4-hour Refresher Course. The 8-hour initial courses are scheduled in two 4-hour sessions and participants must attend both sessions to receive the completion certificate for the course. The 8-hour initial courses will be held on Monday, March 13 and Monday, March 20, and again on Monday, Dec. 4 and Monday, Dec. 11.

The 4-hour Senior Driver Refresher Courses will be held on Mondays, on Feb. 27, April 10, May 22, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 25, and Nov. 6.

All classes will be held from 1-5 p.m. in Room 112 at the CAST Senior Center, 600 North German Street, New Ulm. The 8-hour class is $28 per person, and the 4-hour class is $24 per person, payable by cash or check (to MHSRC) on the day of class. Pre-registration is required. Class size minimum is 15, maximum is 48 people. Registration for all classes is open now.

CAST partners with the Minnesota Highway and Safety Research Center to provide the Senior Driver Refresher Classes, which qualifies participants who complete the course to save 10% on auto insurance premiums for three years. The course is a state-approved accident prevention/insurance discount course that is open to the public. A Minnesota Highway Safety Research Center (MHSRC) certified instructor teaches the class, utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field. Participants will be provided the latest information regarding driver and traffic safety, new laws, and vehicle technology.
