Finstad wins First district race
Rep. Brad Finstad was declared the winner in the First District Congressional race with a 54 percent to 48 percent lead over his DFL challenger, Jeff Ettinger with nearly 88 percent of the precincts reporting. The Associated Press called the race for Finstad shortly after midnight.
Finstad, who lives in Brown County, was elected in a special election in August to fill the First District seat of Jim Hagedorn, who died in office this past year, defeating Ettinger by over 4,000 votes. He and Ettinger won their primary elections to compete for the full term election on Tuesday.
In other congressional elections in the state, the Associated Press declared Republicans Tom Emmer, 6th District, and Michelle Fischbach, 7th District, as winners in their re-election bids. On the Democratic side, Betty McCollum was declared the winner in the 4th District, Ihlan Omar was re-elected in the 5th, and Dean Phillips re-elected in the 3rd.
In the highly contested 2nd District race, Democratic incumbent Angie Craig held a small lead, 50 to 46 percent, over challenger Tyler Kistner with nearly 90 percent of the precincts reporting.
