SLEEPY EYE — A number of area races for Nov. 8 city and school board elections surfaced after the 5 p.m. Tuesday filing deadline.

Sleepy Eye City Councilors Nate Stevermer, Doug Pelzel and Gary Windschitl all filed for office. Regina Wick filed to challenge Stevermer for the councilor at large seat. Pelzel represents Ward 1 and Windschitl Ward 2. City Council seats have four-year terms.

Acting Fairfax Mayor Josh Bunkers filed for office. Tina Castillo, Craig Nachreiner and James J. Schroeder filed for two four-year council seats. Jill Pelzel filed for a two-year council seat.

Johnny Gustafson filed Tuesday to face Stewart Mayor Jason Peirce in November. James Eitel and Curt Glaeser filed for two council seats.

Janis Weikle of Hector filed to run for mayor Tuesday. Five candidates filed to run for two council seats — Amy Hollan, Gerald “Jerry” Johnson, Luke Krueger, Steven Scholla and Jerome Schueller.

Jorey Prescott filed to run for mayor in Morton.

Lamberton Mayor Lydell Sik filed for office as did Councilor David Irlbeck. Leah Bittner filed for an open council seat.

Samuel Pettit filed for an open Buffalo Lake City Council seat.

Franklin Mayor Corey Gruendemann filed for office. Councilor Matthew Mumme filed for office. Newcomers filing for office are Wes Lund and Matthew Radermacher.

Shelley Frantz, Mike Reiner and Andrew Renner filed for the Ward 2 Springfield City Council seat.

Comfrey Councilors Darlene Arnsdorf and Rick Kastner filed for office. Rhonda Groebner filed for council.

Amy Acree of Fairfax filed for a Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop School Board seat. Kenneth Briese of Gibbon filed to challenge Casey J. Prochniak. Nathan Loewy, Pete Schuckert and Emilee Stehr all of Winthrop filed for office.

Ashley Heibel, Jennifer Rose and Jeffrey Sorenson filed for three Cedar Mountain School Board seats.

The Red Rock Central School Board has races in Districts 1, 2 and 3. District 1 filers are Megan Imker, Ronald Kelsey, Matt Lenning and James Rains. District 2 filers are Bruce Grant and John R. Hansen. Brandon Mattison and William Rogotzke filed for the District 3 seat.

Meghann Kodet, Robert L. “Deuce” Larsen, Andrew Lueck, Sarah Myers and Derek Woodford filed for four open Redwood Area School Board seats.

Cathy Blowers, Abbi Carleton, Adam Erickson and Jill Martens filed for three open Nicollet School Board seats.

Samanatha Best of Hector and David Vacek of Hector filed for the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart School Board that has three open seats.
