Luepke wins tallest corn contest

COURTLAND — John Luepke of rural Courtland won the Lafayette Nicollet Ledger’s Tallest Corn Contest with 119-inch tall corn.

Luepke said he locally purchased Dekalb DKC52-18RIB seed and planted it on April 29, in addition to using pig manure and starter fertilizer.

Finishing behind Luepke were Mark Fitzner, 114 inches; Monty Hulke, 109 inches; Perry Hulke 115 inches, all in Courtland Township. Following were Marvin Krohn, Granby Township, 109 inches; Doug Schultz, New Sweden, 108 inches; Jacob Sjostrom, Lafayette Township, 97 inches; Lowell Sjostrom, Alfsborg Township, 96 inches; and Steve Sjostrom, Bernadotte Township, 94 inches.
