Gibbon woman accused of stealing cash

NICOLLET COUNTY — A 47-year-old Gibbon woman faces felony and misdemeanor theft charges for allegedly stealing more than $7,000 in cash while an office manager for a Nicollet business.

Charges were filed June 14 in Nicollet County District Court against Christine Marie Ann Arnold-Loeffler, 230 E. 11th St., Gibbon. A remote hearing was set for 9:30 a.m., Aug. 24, 2021.

According to court documents, Arnold-Loeffler accepted a number of cash payments for the business from a renter and various customers that were not deposited into the business’s bank account from Jan. 3, 2020 through Feb. 19, 2021.

Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Aaron Petersen reviewed City of Nicollet documents and was told by a witness that a renter would typically pay rent by check but a number of times paid cash for water bills.

The investigator learned that on five occasions, Arnold-Loeffler failed to pay water bills to the City of Nicollet after receiving cash for them from the renter and that the missing money as not in a cash box kept at the business office for petty cash needs.

In addition, a witness told the investigator he had a tractor repaired at the business and paid for it with cash payments of $1,160.78 and $700 to Arnold-Loeffler on July 1, 2020 and Aug. 17, 2020, respectively.

Arnold-Loeffler confirmed she was a bookkeeper at the business and handled deposits for the business and rental property. She admitted taking money out of the cash box because she went through a divorce and needed money.
