Vehicle fire extinguished Tuesday

NEW ULM — New Ulm Fire Department extinguished a double vehicle fire Tuesday morning.

The fire call came in at 10:03 a.m. from 1218 N. Front St.

Second Assistant Fire Chief Missy Visser said the fire call came from Tanner Burden. He was scrapping a Ford SUV. In the process of removing the gas tank, the fire started. Strong winds fed the flames and the fire spread to a small passenger bus parked adjacent to the SUV. The bus was completely engulfed by the fire.

Fire Chief Paul Macho said it took some time before the fire was fully extinguished. The vehicles still had gas in them, which fueled the fire. The strong winds were also created a challenge.

The fire department had the fire extinguished by 10:45 a.m. No injuries were reported. The fire was limited to the two vehicles.
