Free tax prep offered

NEW ULM — The United Way of the Brown County Area, in partnership with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, will provide a free tax preparation program March 2 hrough April 15 in the lower level of the New Ulm Public Library.

This program is run by local IRS-certified volunteers that work with the United Way and VITA. The program is specifically for those who cannot afford to pay to have their taxes done and or who cannot do their taxes through a free online site. The tax team cannot do all taxes but can provide help to those who have federal and Minnesota income taxes and some property taxes.

This program was cut short last year due to the pandemic and the tax team hopes to help those that missed the program last year.

To have your taxes done, you must have a scheduled appointment, be prepared with all your tax documents the day and time of your appointment, wear a mask, and call to reschedule if on the day of your appointment you are feeling sick or experiencing any symptoms of COVID.

To schedule an appointment please call: 507-276-3186.

For those who have access and experience with filing their taxes online, please go to MyFreeTaxes.com to file for free.
