Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting Dec. 13

NEW ULM — The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting will be held on Sunday, Dec. 13, via a Zoom meeting at 7 p.m.

For 40 years the South Central Chapter of The Compassionate Friends has gathered grieving parents, siblings and grandparents together in December to help them find their way through the holidays. The group has gathered together to light candles and share time looking for peace and comfort. This year due to COVID 19 it will gather on Zoom on computers from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. They will share glowing candles and hear music and readings and encourage each other as they seek hope for 2021.

The candle lighting is in memory of children who have died and Compassionate Friends invites bereaved parents, siblings, grandparents, relatives and friends to join in. The Zoom link will be available starting at 6:30 p.m. The Candle Lighting portion itself will begin promptly at 7 p.m. and conclude a 8 p.m. Please have your candle and lighting device ready. This will ensure that all candles will be lit promptly at 7 p.m. as they join the 24 -hour wave of light around the world. The Compassionate Friends 24th Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting will unite grieving families through an event that begins in New Zealand at 7 p.m. with candles lighting followed by candles being lit around the globe as each time zone reaches 7 p.m. There were over 600 gatherings open to the public last year.

To join in the Zoom meeting please visit Compassionate Friends’ e-mail at tcfsouthcentralmn@gmail.com or visit them on Facebook.

The organization will make them and send them to you. Please call 507-359-2737 concerning mailing instructions or e-mail the group or join on Facebook.

We invite you and your family and friends to join with our local group in your home as we remember our children in the glow and warmth of lighted candles.
