NU Foundation makes grant to Way of Cross

As part of its Fall granting cycle, New Ulm Area Foundation has granted $5,000 to the Diocese of New Ulm for use on the Way of the Cross restoration project. The funds for this part of the project will be used to help cover the costs for cleaning and tuck pointing the exteriors of each of the 15 niches and Chapel located along the Way of the Cross path. The main purpose is to maintain the historic integrity and avoid further deterioration of the 115 year old site. The Way of the Cross is a designated heritage preservation landmark and has significant historical value for the city of New Ulm, and State of Minnesota, with over 1,000 annual visits from people across the United States and countries including Japan, Germany, and South Africa. The site has been a stopping point for tour busses, often referred by the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce, spending tourism dollars at hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses.
