Chamber of Commerce plans for Parade of Lights

NEW ULM — The annual New Ulm Parade of Lights this year will be much different than in previous years.

Based on recommendations from the Department of Health, this year’s parade with be a reverse parade. A reverse parade means the units will be parked along the curb on each side of the street and those who wish to view the parade will drive down the middle.

The parade will take place on Nov. 27. The official start time will be 6 p.m. and the end is 7 p.m. Viewers should line up to enter Minnesota Street on the intersection of 4th North and Minnesota. Please use German Street and Minnesota Street as you line up. Do not block Broadway. Please watch for directions from the New Ulm Police Department and Chamber of Commerce volunteers. You can tune into KNUJ for live parade coverage on 860 AM and 97.3 FM. Check KNUJ’s Facebook page for live coverage with hosts Jim Bartels and Kim Hanson.

Here are some general guidelines for the parade: the sidewalks are closed to the public. Please remain in your vehicle while viewing the parade. Please drive slowly with your driving lights on. Decorate your own car, but ensure that lights and decorations are not dragging on the ground. No honking, as this impacts others along the parade route. The New Ulm Police Department and color guard will lead the parade and keep the pace. There will be no candy, coupons or other handouts.
