Schools close early, cancel activities

Staff photo by Fritz Busch Snow going Traffic on 3rd North Street was slow moving due to steady snowfall Tuesday morning and afternoon. The snow was forecast to top 5 inches in spots and continue until a bit past the supper hour. The Minnesota State Patrol was busy handling many area crashes.

Sleepy Eye Public School closed at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday due to the snow forecast to continue into the supper hour.

School activities were cancelled Tuesday at Sleepy Eye High School and Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW).

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) reported heavy slush on area highways including U.S. Highway 14 and Highways 19, 4, 66, and 68.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported a number of crashes on snow-covered highways in the area.
