All’s fair for fall

The Forever Flower booth at Saturday’s craft fair downtown New Ulm set the mood for the fall season.

NEW ULM — For the second month in a row, the City Hall municipal parking lot was host to a craft and vendor show on Saturday.

The “Shop the Lot” event had around 20 vendors. James Haviland and Heather Ellanson have been organizing these fairs in New Ulm for the last five years.

Ellanson said it was a pretty good turnout. She was pleased the rain stayed away. The weather was near-perfect for a fall craft fair.

Vendors were selling items including woodworks, jewelry and facemasks. The COVID pandemic has created a boom in the need for facemasks and facemask accessories. Swan Maid Crafts sold mini-purses that were perfect for holding a facemask when not in use.

Seasonal items included fall flowers. Jen Cleveland’s Forever Flower table appealed to the autumnal enthusiasts with silk flowers.

It is also the season for warmers. Janita Palma was selling Scentsy electric wax warmers. The device heats scented wax and comes in many designs. Palma said the Halloween warmers sell very well this time of year. Last year the Jack Skellington sold out in five hours.

The craft market also welcomed people from New Ulm’s Farmers’ Market. Andrea Schlei brought a table full of pickled peppers, beats and other vegetables. Schlei said the vegetable medley was the most popular item of the day.

Ellanson said there will be a few more craft and vendor fairs this year. The next fair will be during Oktoberfest weekend and the last will be on Black Friday.
