Retired Nurse to run for House in District 19A

ST. PETER — Susan Akland of St. Peter received a unanimous endorsement by the Nicollet County Republicans in her campaign to be the next Minnesota House Representative for District 19A.

She is married to Dr. Mark Akland, they are long time residents of St. Peter and they raised their son, John, in St. Peter. She is a retired nurse with over forty years in the profession and her husband is still a practicing physcian.

When asked why she was exiting retirement to pursue this seat she responded, “I am on a personal mission with my conservative values to correct the liberal direction we are experiencing in our state government in St. Paul.”

Akland’s primary themes will be to listen to the local voters on such topics as the rising cost of health care, controlling government spending and taxes, opposing overreaching farming and business regulations, protecting the core values of citizen’s gun rights and assuring parent’s authority over the education and the safety of their children.
