SLEEPY EYE — A 32-year-old Sleepy Eye man faces three charges after a woman told police her ex-boyfriend attacked her and she had to leave a residence to get away from him, over the weekend.

Brandon R. Olson, 317 Maple St. S.W., was charged Monday with domestic assault and disrupting emergency phone calls. A bail hearing was set for 11 a.m. today.

According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police were called by a woman at 5:08 a.m. Feb. 22. She said she was attacked and left a residence. An officer met the woman at the Dyckman Free Library and drove her to the police department.

The woman told police Olson and a witness came to where she worked and ordered a beer at about 11 p.m. Olson and a witness later left and appeared to go towards Meyer’s Bar & Lounge.

The woman said she got home at about 2:45 a.m. and Olson and two witnesses were outside. They began calling her vulgar names before she went inside to bed. She said Olson came into her bedroom and told her to get out of his bed and sleep on a couch.

The woman said she refused and told Olson to sleep on the couch before he grabbed her ankles and began to pull her off the bed. She said she got free and tried to run out of the bedroom but Olson grabbed her in a bear hug and threw her to the ground.

She said she grabbed her phone and ran into the living room. She was calling police when he followed and took the phone from her and refused to give it back. She said she grabbed her coat and purse and tried to get out the back door when Olson grabbed her in a chokehold and pulled a door shut.

She said she tried to leave the residence more than a dozen times but Olson either grabbed her or blocked her from leaving. She said he impeded her ability to breathe normally with a chokehold to the point where she feared for her safety.

After being able to get outside, she said she ran through an alley and called police.

An officer went into the residence at about 5:58 a.m., found Olson lying in bed and took him into custody.
